I've noticed a lot of interest from various people in being mummified when they die?
Most of the embalming done today involves various chemicals being pumped into the corpse and only preserving the body for a few weeks at the most.
There's no a problem with the leakage from burial grounds seeping into the ground water. This is contaminating the drinking water with fun stuff like arsenic, formaldihyde and lead.
This isn't exactly what I want to drink.

Natron, the prime substance used in Egyptian mummifcation, is not all that efficient as a drying medium compared to what's available today. The ancients could only use the materials available at that time. Things have progressed since 1000 BC.

If you really want to be mummified and aren't a super stickler for tradition (it's a little hard to find Muu dancers today), why not go completely modern.

You can get a free disembowelment by donating your organs to someone still living. Just have the doctors stuff you with old hospital linens to restore your shape.
If you're lucky enough to die, "under suspicious circumstances", an autopsy would also be done for free.

The AEs frequently got separated from their innards and had to make do with substitutes.
Why wait for others to do it for you? Make your own, "emergency viscera", today!

Drying? Use silica gel.
This is the stuff that will whisk the water out of anything and in record time.
Pounds of this stuff is packed in eletronics. The gel is in those little packs that say, "Do not eat!" Buy a new computer, TV, VCR, DVD player, doppler radar and start saving the gel packets.
You won't have to open them until you need to use them. The best part of silica gel is it's reusable. If it gets wet, just dry it out in the oven.

Wrappings? The Egyptians used old bed sheets and clothing. Why not do the same?
Nothing says, "Good Taste" like having a shroud by Martha Stewart.

Resins?
Forget the old pine sap. Go with polyester resins. You can buy it by the gallon and it will outlast radioactive fallout.
Also, if you've ever tried to get it out of anything you know that no robber could ever get through thirty layers of sheets and poly-cotton blends of ripped up 70's leasure suits to get to your heart scarab. The stuff used for those suits will outlast the pyramids on its own.

I'm really only half kidding about all of this. I think that if mummification became popular again this would do the trick.

I've seen that site and also some news items on various TV shows.
My way is a lot cheaper and all the really nasty stuff is done for you.
I suppose the cheapest way is just to have your carcass drug out into some desert, planted in the sand and letting nature take its course.
