Carter- It may sound strange- but lower Egypt is the Northern part of the country where the Nile Delta is formed and flows into the Mediterranian Sea. Upper Egypt refers to the southern part of the country. They base it on which direction the Nile River flows; in this case, it flows from South to the North. The dividing line between Upper & Lower Egypt I don't recall, but it is roughly in the middle of the country. Hope this helps! (Message edited by blake on October 21, 2005) |

Carter, We in Egypt calls all governorates below Giza as Upper Egypt which are Bani Suif, El-Menia, Assiut, Sohag, Luxor & Asswan. As the highest point in Africa is in Athiopia and the lowest is in Alexandria, Asswan is higher than Alexandria with about 90 meters. Regards Samuel |
