Hello all, This is my very first post here, so I appologize if this subject has already been discussed. I ran into some very recent aerial photos of the Giza Plateau and was surprised to see how close to the pyramids Cairo has spread. My doubts are: 1. Do the Egyptian or Cairene governments have any projects to control/supervise this growth? 2. Is the pyramids site endangered in any way? 3. Can we assume countless potencial archaeological sites are now doomed to never be found, once they are underneath modern Cairo? I appreciate any help. All the best, Daniel |

hello daniel I have been to cairo this jear and some times before I am not totally sure but I have asked some egyptians about it 1 supervision is nearly impossible with over 20 million people living in cairo but the house building is mostly on the other side of gizeh in the direction of saqqara. 2 the piramids themselves are not in danger but there is a part of the plateau (right in front of the pyramids) where the street allready begins. 3 if there is anything found under central or modern cairo the goverment will do their best but I think when the site is to big (read crouwded) they will not do it (allso because the goverment has not much money) hope I satisfied you anymore questions? just mail me paulinesmolders@hotmail.com |
